Tragical Situation for Dogs in Bucharest

No one knows about this situation until he/she gets involved. I know how I was - "we have all these associations and foundations; I am sure everything is fine. I am sure there is a way to find a pound for a street dog. I mean, like I said, we have so many associations, etc."

Well, let me tell you something: the situation is very critical. We are part of the European Union and we are unable to have a law and apply a law to protect animals. No law being enforced to stop cruelty against animals; no law to force people to neuter dogs (and this is so dramatic that even this would be a blessing at the moment). No nothing.

The company where I work has two dogs. They want to get them to the pound - no, don't let yourself tricked by this name. This name in Romania equals - beating, cruelty, disease, hunger, thirst, and not even 7 days later - death. One on top of the others in cages, all sick. If you get to see that place, you will... it will haunt you forever.

Anyway, about trying to find a shelter for these dogs is impossible. Absolutely "ALL" shelters are too full. I have made all the possible calls and I cannot believe it when I hear it. Yet I know it is true. Even the ones outside Bucharest are full. I want to rescue two dogs and I have no place to keep them. It's tragic.

And you know what is even worse? That monthly, about 1500 dogs get to 'visit' the 'pound' and maybe at least 500-1000 die there. And the government does and says nothing. Nothing at all, while the situation is getting worse and worse, with dogs being punished for being born (they are killed), and the real culprits, people who throw them in the street while they are babies, or torture them - they get away with it.

Not even private property is not safe - if someone hurts your dog, nothing happens. If someone tortures the dog, nothing happens again.

Too few care, and no action is being taken. No awareness...

So now I am looking at the huge international organizations shouting for animal rights. Where are they now? Where are they, when they proclaim themselves as animal lovers?
